Initial True Product Offering

ITPO is an acronym that stands for Initial True Product Offering. Coined by UniFund De’capital, this term promotes businesses that have passed the stage of having products or services to market. It came into being as a result of the billions of dollars that have been scammed by ICO (Initial Coin Offerings) projects that turned out to be scams.

Not to be confused with IPO (Initial Public Offering) this term aims to distance itself from ICO and its negative associations. In other words, “True Product” as in there already being a product(s) that money is being raised for, rather than no product with funds being sought out to actualize concepts and theories for what may be one day.

ITPO is one of the first forms of public funding for projects in the crypto market that, even if they may not yet be fully established, have products and users to show. This new format, a more transparent and stringent form of capital raising is more suitable for the current state of a wary and cautious market. The old models namely ICOs, IEOs and IDOs can still be seen, but have long since lost virtually all popularity.

The marketing of a whitepaper with slides and concept arts without as much as an MVP (“whitepaper selling”) is no longer accepted and now usually fails to garner any traction with the public. This makes ITPO a new potentially indispensable trend to guide the now wary crypto user and market in the right trajectory.

Differences To ICOs and IPOs

Like before, companies, projects, or developers proceed to issue a certain number of coins or tokens with a portion being sold to bigger investors all taking place on blockchain based crowdfunding platforms to raise funds to further finance the project. What makes ITPOs different is the special feature of coins or tokens being “identified”. Every entity that becomes part of the circulation undergoes KYC and when coins or tokens are sold they are set to be equivalent to a certain amount of shares of the projects should it ever go public in the traditional sense of an IPO. This means investors can potentially become shareholders of companies.

This makes ITPO a new form of capital raising where users fund projects they want to support while simultaneously potentially becoming shareholders. This is a new trend to raise capital for products that already have users or have revenue or customers and are only accepted if there is a product(s), after meeting regulatory standards and when the project is considered good according to the common ground of the market.

This makes ITPO an important capital solution and a stepping stone for companies wishing to expand the consumer market with a long-term orientated way of investing while also garnering enough resources to potentially journey to an IPO.
